I have just bought the Discovery SE and am pleased enough that I want another discovery so I can have one upstairs and one downstairs without having to drag the unit and charging station back and forth.

I think I read on this forum that the Roomba Red will use a home base station if you buy it separately and it will self dock when it needs charging. I also read that you could run it in MAX mode even though it doesn't have a MAX button if you use a remote which I have with the Discovery SE.

A roomba red for $100 and a home base for $60 would be more economical so I am wondering if some of the learned users of this forum could verify the above assumptions for me.

Thanks,
Rick

You are correct. However, you can't get a Roomba Red for only 100 dollars anymore because that deal is over (if you are talking about the thing at Amazon). Plus, the Roomba Red only comes with one virtual wall and no Remote Control or Wall Mount. I do admit though, while the deal lasted it was more economical to buy the Roomba Red for 100 dollars and all the accessories seperately then to buy a Roomba Discovery.

He's right. The price of the Red is now $125 at Amazon after the coupon, but otherwise yes, a lot of people (myself included) have bought a Discovery and a Roomba Red as a secondary unit.

Your remote will allow you to use the Max mode on the red and all of your accessories will work as well. The only difference I have noticed on the Red compared to the Discovery is that the dustbin doesn't slide on quite as smoothly on the Red, so you have to make sure to push it on tightly when emptying it or it sometimes falls off.

Other than that, they both work identically.

FYI, the home base is $51 at Amazon, not $60.
