I bought a Roomba Pro for my wife last Christmas, & when I saw the new Discovery, I decided to get it since "Stella" doesn't have the oomph to cover the whole house. Being the impatient person that I am, I fired up "Claire" to see how big a difference there was between them while she was at work.
For those who are happy with the original design, you have to try the Discovery! I've been impressed with Stella, even after the charger problems of last year and a weak battery (which IRobot replaced no charge after I answered a survey and noted the problem, without being asked and after 10 months!!)
Claire is definitely quieter, and seems to clean as well if not better than Stella. The redesign includes locating the vacum motor in the dust bin, which really surprised me. The dust bin is huge in comparison, and is very easy to empty. The program seems to have been refined as well, as I noticed that Claire definitely does things a little differently than Stella. Edge cleaning is definitely closer and more refined, and the docking maneuver works very well.
My only concern right now is that the handle is a little flimsy feeling, and I'm wondering whether it'll last. Other than that, its a nicely built unit.
Stella has been on the go for a year now, and keeps the bedrooms as clean as can be, even with 2 shedding cats in the house. I'm hoping that Claire can handle a 26 x 26' great room on max mode and dock in a corner when she is done. It sure beats dragging a big vac around and saves a lot of time, especially for me since I hate vacuming.
IRobot has done a very nice job on the redesign IMHO, and should be commended on a job well done. |
