My Roomba Discovery seems to be behaving in a very odd manner. :? When its moving forward sometimes it will backup for a split second, turn, and start moving again. Almost like its colliding with an object or its cliff sensors detect a cliff. Not only does this prevent it from cleaning the room very well, but it gets stuck constantly because it backs itself into a wall, shuts off, turns back on, then keeps backing into the wall until it beeps for help. We have a large amount of pet hair and if I clean the brushes it seems to help for a little bit but it always starts doing it again before it can finish cleaning the room. I have also made sure no hair is blocking the cliff sensors. I think it might be defective but not sure..... Has anyone else seen the Discovery do this?

Mine does that when we put it on the area rug which is on top of carpet when it hits the places the coffee table legs sit. The rug is just barely noticably dented down in those 4 places. I think Roomba is quite sensitive to the surface, perhaps your floor is has some bumps in the pad or sub flooring?? I would like to see what (if anything) iRobot would say...

That might be it, because it seems to do it worse on certain parts of the carpet. It also seems to be working perfectly fine on tile so I no longer think its defective. I need to try it on a different kind of carpet to see if it does the same thing. I might also try putting tape over the cliff sensors to see if that fixes it.
