charging problems w/ SE

We're having a problem with our Discovery SE unit which charges to full on the home base and then, for no apparent reason, is completely discharged when we want to use it an hour or so later. Everything seems to work fine - the unit finds the home base, the power light shows a steady green - and then nothing. No lights are lit and it's got to be charged directly. Anybody else had or having this problem? ANybody got an idea how to fix it?
Any info will be appreciated.

I charged the Roomba for three hours turned it on and it stopped. I charged it again for 3 hours and the same thing. I finally took it apart. The brushes and everything and throughly cleaned the brushes. I noticed on the bottom of my Roomba a message "If you don't clean me I will stop." I turned it back on and off it went and cleaned for 1 1/2 and returned to the base.
