Hi all,

Talked to iRobot sales support today.

According to iRobot, the Extended Life (2 HR) Virtual Wall is ONLY available at the iRobot store, it is not distributed to retailers. Interestingly the iRobot price of $29.95 is less than online retailers price for the old 1HR Virtual Wall (e.g. $39.95 for the old unit at Amazon).

That's why Amazon doesn't sell it nor does Hammacher (they both sell the old 1 hour Virtual Wall). Also be aware of online retailers/ebayers using a picture of the Extended Life unit which is downright deceptive (Amazon does that - although to their credit they state it is the old model.)

Although the old units will "work" with the new Discovery Roombas, I think it is pointless to purchase them because the IR beam will be shut off at 1 hour before the Discovery is finished cleaning. I routinely get 1-1/2 hour cleaning cycles and my Roombas would always be going to unwanted places when the beam was switched off.

Has anyone been able to get an Extended Life Virtual Wall other than from iRobot?

Kevin

The Extended Life Virtual Walls are supplied with the entire Discovery line of Roombas. So whether you buy a new Red, Sage, Discovery, or Discovery SE, that is what is in the box.

Kevin, when you buy a Scheduler, two virtual walls are included. They don't say extended on them, BUT when you read the manual it says when you schedule your Roomba Scheduler they will shut off in 100 minutes, and Roomba will only CLEAN for an hour. But if you use the MAX setting on the Roomba and the standard use for the wall, it will shut off in 130 mins. which is ample time as mine has only gone 105 on MAX.
As far as buying an extra one from somewhere other than Irobot, I have no idea, but two are plenty for me. :D
