Is there a danger of cycling the roomba through the diagnostics mode(s) e.g. causing damage to the roomba as a result of using the diagnostic mode.

I have heard that it is possible to lock up the processor. Is there any truth to this?

I would doubt it. When in diagnostics mode, it is possible that your Roomba might sustain damage when the sensors are disabled it can roll right off a table or a flight of stairs.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

 The procedure for entering diagnostic mode needs to be done outdoors. The first thing to do is to set Roomba on your driveway so it can run up and down the same path as your 4x4 truck. Next start your truck--place in R and drive directly over your Roomba. The diagnosis is nearly always the same result-------it's screwed, as are those of us who bought one. Live and learn!!

To use the diagnosticmode you de4press both clean and spot buttons and atthe same time depress the power button. Then you press the clean button once to cycle each mode. The exact translation key to rthe diagonsticmode is available on the net somewhere

There are actually three Yahoo groups for Roomba users. Look here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=roomba

Not exactly popular but they do exist.

Although you won't lock up the MCU it is VERY possible to cause damage to yourself or the robot because all the fail safe sensors are disabled during the factory diagnostic tests. A lot of common sense must be utilized when performing the tests. It is best to read through the test procedures several times before attempting to utilize them in diagnosing you Roomba.

Again, extreme cautions must be exercised due to the shutting down of all the fail safe sensors but here is a link to Gordons procedures:

Actually if you follow the proper fail safe testing you will be able to repair your Roomba after determining what is failing by performing these procedures: http://mysite.verizon.net/gsplews/Diagnositic-Tests_Proc.v.0.5.htm

There is a way to place the 5XX model into diagnostic mode that requires one to connect a communications package to the SCI port and send special commands to the Open Interface, send me a PM is you want to attempt this procedure.

Within about two weeks after announcing creation of iRobot's own forums, the Company pulled the plug w/o any notice. All messages (totaling over 13,000), files, & pix went into the bit bucket.
