| due to the fact that I live in Australia, buying filters from overseas starts to become an expensive exercise so I tried to refurbish my own. I have the discovery range filter types and what I did was I gently pulled the filter screen(paper) retainer from the main filter frame. Its held in by several plastic nobs. Using something thin like a kitchen knife you can gentle work it apart without breaking the nobs. First time I attempted this I did break a few but that didn't affect the performance of the retainer a great deal as there are plenty of retaining nobs on the main filter frame.once they are pulled apart you can replace the paper with what ever similar material you got laying around as long as you note that the porosity of the paper is roughly the same otherwise the vacuum fan won't perform to the desirable level. I used a disposable dust mask and pulled of the paper layer that was virtually the same. It had the strength not to rip when you flicked it with your finger when installed and had the same porosity as the original. I layed the layer of paper to the main frame clicked the retainer back on and used a stanley knife to finish it of to get rid of excess. and you cannot tell the difference by look or performance. the second roomba had this done for the past 6 months on regular basis. |
