Hi!
I looked around the forums for potential topics for my problem but didn't seem to find anything matching my issues. Sorry if this has been answered before!
Lately I've noticed that my Roomba will only run for about 5 minutes and just die somewhere with an organge status light and a red power light. It was acting as if the battery was dead.
Unfortunately, no amount of charging will make it work any longer. I have left it plugged directly into the wall charger for 72 hours and it has a solid green power light the entire time.
I ran the diagnostics tests to see if the internal charging system was working and all of the tests passed with no issues.
I also checked the voltage across the terminals (at the time of Roomba death) and I am reading about 15V!! I even checked each and every cell inside to verify there wasn't a fauly wire or something. Each cell is giving 1.3V and the temperature sensor seems to be soldered on correctly and it working properly as far as I know. I tested it's resistance and watched it change as I breathed hot air or cold air on it.
Even after checking all of the voltages and diagnostics and everything checks out, the second I turn it on and try to run it, it dies about 5 seconds later with the same status (red power light, orange status light, and the "my power died" tones).
Can anyone help me here? I can't figure it out... :( |

Since you checked your charging system, you must have a dead battery. Batteries can show what appears to be a good voltage reading and still have no capability to run a load. Load testing is the only way to really test a battery.
Also 15V is low for a charged, no load battery reading. 14-14.5V would be a depleted battery, and it should be about 17V for a fully charged battery. |

Take a look at my thread "discovery trouble" a little further down the 1st page. Your trouble sounds a lot like what mine was doing at the beginning.
The internal charger FET failed. All of the details are there.

I will definitely check the charging FET first and if that doesn't work, I will go ahead and rebuild a battery.
Thanks for your help everyone!
Regarding rebuilding a batt pack, how many mAh would you suggest for NiMH battery packs? 3000? 4500? |
