|
|
Hello. I have a new (2 weeks old) Discovery 4220. I charge the Roomba on the charging home base. However, the longest I've seen my Roomba run before the power is done is 45 minutes. I thought it should last longer than that?
I recharge through the homebase for at least 3 hours (most of time all day) but the Roomba only runs up to 45 minutes.
Is the battery bad or is there anything I can do to increase the performance? |

You can try a 72 hour charge.
Disconnect the home base, and run a MAX cycle... make a mental note of how long it runs before the battery completely dies.
Remove the battery from the robot, and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
Replace the battery and plug the charger directly into the Roomba. (This helps prevent any interruptions in charging if it accidentally gets bumped off the home base)
Let charge for 72 hours (yes, that's 3 days) and run another MAX cycle and see if your run time has improved. |

I wanted to say I tried what gravity suggested.
I ran a MAX cycle first, and just as I predicted, my Roomba ran for about 45 minutes.
I charged the unit for at least 72 hours straight.
I ran another MAX cycle. This time my Roomba ran for about 65 minutes. Is that a good enough long cycle for it?
Thanks again! |

| 65 minutes is a good cycle. What type of floor is it running on? Sounds like a great run for all carpet. |

| That was on pergo flooring. I'll have to time it next time for carpeting. |

I did a cycle on my carpeting and the Roomba ran for 50 minutes. That was after charging it on the homebase for about 2 days.
I let the Roomba charge for another day, ran it on the hard floors again and it ran for 60 minutes. |

| Sounds like you're getting good runs out of it now. You should probably cut back on your MAX runs now to once a month. Running it on Max all the time will shorten the battery life. |

Seems on the shallower end of "normal" but not outright "bad". Gravity has had 3 in a row that clunked out at around 30 minutes. There are 12 cells in there and from what I understand they kind of go by the "weakest link". Sounds like a certain amount of variation between batteries. To be honest, I don't usually time bot runs, but sometimes when I do a "pack run" they seem to dock at different times.
One of my friends noticed that one of her batteries didn't seem to last as long. I did 3 consecutive 72 hr charges for her, and the run time was consistent at around 1:10-1:15 for mixed floor (laminate, carpet).
No harm in calling iRobot. One of our forum members couldn't get a max run time over 45 min and they replaced it. |
