Hello, my roomba is not working right. It turns on and starts going about its business, then about 15-30 second later stops, backs up, spins, backs up, spins, backs up, spins, and keeps doing that until the battery dies. I've tried kicking it a few times, that didn't work, i've also tried cleaning the 4 stair sensors with a qtip, no luck. Please let me know what to do before i throw it down the stairs. It is a roomba discovery i bought a few years ago at target. I've recently replaced the battery and all brushs.

I've attached a video of it for your entertainment!

Perform the factory diagnostic tests on your Roomba to determine what is wrong. You can find the procedure in the Sticky "READ FIRST"

Best guess, your LED/PT wheel sensors are dirty. In the Diagnostics pay close attention to Test 9b for which button, SPOT or CLEAN that is not flickering. If this is the case you are better off disassembling and cleaning both sides since you will already be in there.

Here is the link to the Diagnostics http://mysite.verizon.net/gsplews/Diagnositic-Tests_Proc.v.0.5.htm Do yourself a favor and give them a good read through a few time before actually attempting them. This will 1-help you understand what they are, and 2-keep you and your roomba safe and bandage free. :D

If it is stuck try to see why, possibly the handle is restricting movement. If it is moving and still does not actuate the optical sensors then you can try to use compressed air to blow out an debris that is blocking the LED/PT If you look through www.roombaexchange.com/roombatd.php in the disassembly images you will see how it all looks with the shell and bumper off and can see how the actuating arm functions. Than may make cleaning it easier.
