| If you want a basic 4xxx, ecost.com has the 400 for $95.00 new. It doesn't have spot cleaning or dirt detect. It has the 7 hour charger and non APS battery. Basically a 4xx for someone running 1 time a day and doesn't mind plugging it back up. It does still have a 1 year warranty. |

Does the 400 lack dirt-detection and spot-cleaning, or does it merely lack the LED to INDICATE dirt-detection, and the unit-mounted button to initiate spot-cleaning? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the 400s actually CAN do spot-cleaning, but you have to use the remote control to initiate it since there's no button to do it on the 400 itself. Not sure about dirt-detection, though.
For what it's worth, the "400" is also available locally in Miami/Fort Lauderdale at Brandsmart for the same price ($94.88, give or take a few cents).
UPDATE:
Apparently, the 400 is permanently inferior to other 400-series models in at least one major way. I read somewhere that it lacks the hardware to detect when it's stuck. I believe it also lacks a rotating front wheel, which would explain this shortcoming (the wheel is used by more advanced roombas to verify that the roomba is actually moving). |
