Hi, I am thinking of starting a Roomba project and would appreciate any comments. I don't have one yet, but am thinking about buying a refurb roomba red for a decent price online (I found a few). I have a wireless router that controls quite a few things around my house (motion-detection security cam, lights, HVAC) and want to let it have a roomba to control too, and I am looking forward to having it vacuum for me (hopefully well... although I guess I could always reprogram it through the router if needed).
Anyhow, the plan is basically:
Roomba Red
2 x XBee Pro (claims 300 ft, I prob don't need _much_ more than 100 but want to be sure)
Some way to interface it to the Roomba (Need some help here, I know it has a port that can be interfaced to say a serial cable, would I need a separate board to interface to XBee Pro and any suggestions; also I guess I _could_ be open to getting another router to permanently attach to the Roomba and just have Wifi but this seems like a very bulky and power hungry solution)
Some kind of XBee to USB board (I can prob find one but any suggestions let me know)
In any case what I want is to have direct SCI access wirelessly from my router.
Thank you

There are some folks on the Create forum using the Xbee gear and some C programs to do some different things, you might get some ideas there. Also you can get the Rootooth device which is a class 1 Bluetooth device that is also good for 300 feet and plugs directly into the Roomba SCI port.
