We got a new Discovery and it worked okay at first, then developed this problem where, on carpet, it kind of chugs forward a bit, turns a little, chugs a little, and usually within 30-60 seconds, it stops, says Uh-oh plus one beep. We cleaned the brushes and wheels very carefully, but the problem continued. The problem does not occur on hard floors, only carpet.
I called i-Robot, and after months of rigamarole they sent me a new Roomba, but I had to use the old dustbin and battery. Exactly the same problem! So then I thought maybe it was a dustbin problem, since there's some kind of electonic connection in it, so I bought a new dustbin. No change.
We tried it on various lengths of carpet but it doesn't seem to matter. Hard floor good, carpet bad. Ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Art
Welcome to Roomba Review.
How long did it take for the new guy to start doing the same thing?
Try removing the dustbin, setting the bot on the carpet with its "bottom" off, and pressing "start". Are the brushes turning?
Are you still under warranty? |

| The one beep error code is for the brush motor so if the brushes are turning as Wendy asked then either both Discovery units have a motor that is running hot (over current demand) or the nylon string that adjusts the deck hight it broken or not adjusted properly. Any combination of the above can be the issue and each can be solved. |

Just curious . . . what type of brush did your unit come with. (Pet or Normal?) I notice a BIG difference between the type of brush used on the large rugs in our house. When the pet brush is used it kinda' "chunks" along when going against the grain of the rugs but isn't as bad when using the normal brush. (Has to do with the rubber beater bars built into the pet brush.) |
