I recently ordered a Scooba through Techforless. This was advertised as an "open box" item. I got a pretty good deal as the price was less than half what a new one costs. The Scooba was shipped to me in a box that indicates it was "remanufactured" by iRobot. From what I can tell, this was originally a model 5800 that was updated and is now labelled as model 5999.

When I opened the box I could see that the Scooba had definitely been used and not cleaned. It was filthy, with hair stuck in most of the ports and thread wrapped around the brush and completely stuck in the front wheel. After about a half day's worth of work I got the unit cleaned up and it appears to work okay. I've notified the Techforless people and they apologized profusely and offered me an additional discount on the already attractive price.

However, I'm curious whether sending out a dirty unit was a snafu on their part, or whether they just received the unit in that condition from iRobot. Anyone else have experience with remanufactured products from iRobot?

Sounds like you got burnt on the wording. It was new, then used, then remanufactured- and the important part that they left out- used again.

ga2607,

I have had a Remanufactured Roomba that came from Amazon. The Roomba look immaculant, except for the scratches in the plastic.

First, they claimed it's an "Open Box", which I'm sure it was. Opened, tried and put back in the box. I'm sure that iRobot took care of it properly, but that Techforless was the one at fault!

Hi Ga
Ditto on nine's and Chris' posts. I have 4 reman's(roombas), 2 bought new and 2 bought "open box". The new ones are immaculate---spotlessly clean, brand new brushes and accessories, with that "new feel".
FYI when they are reman'd they are given a new model no., e.g. 4296, or 4199, vs what their original model no's might have been.
Hopefully all that is amiss with your bot is the cleanliness issue.
