Received a Cleaning head module to mod with the ball bearings. It was just in time for this gear box. The brush motor gear was warped and the hole enlarged causing massive play in the motor gear alignment. When the ball bearing is installed the play will no longer be an issue.

Yep, and then the gears strip because they're no longer in the correct alignment/position. That's sorta' like what happened to my re-manufactured Scheduler 'cept the hole wasn't enlarged, just the gear shaft worn down so badly it caused the same result. Just glad you came up with the bearing mod and now I don't have to worry about it anymore.

This is a prime example of why following the cleaning instructions on the WIKI and not really worrying about IRobot's saying "it will void your warranty" is essential. IMHO but especially if you have pets.

The warranty will be up in no time and by that time, you will have worn your gear box down so it's not able to be modded. It's an expensive little item to pay for yourself at almost $200 including shipping so a little maintenance goes a long way.

I have mine for 9 months now and with frequent (after each run) maintenance on both plus having one modded a few months back, both are pristine just like when I got them and work great. The only wear issue is the rubber on the bristle brush that tends to get a bit cut up.

Okay, that makes me feel MUCH better. I just opened up my gearbox today, and it wasn't even close to that in terms of quantity of debris. I have a herd of cats, and have had my Roomba, Frank, for well over a month now (he's the original Frank's twin brother...bad consumer for returning the first Frank to Costco so I could start fresh! bad! bad!).

Going to be a good girl and keep cleaning the bot well so when my warranty is up I can send my gearbox to Vic in good shape!
