All the discussion of brush bearings and the ball bearing mods (which I have not yet done, though I have the bearings on hand) leads me to wonder:
Once you've taken care of the weakest link in the Roomba design--the plastic bearings that wear and leak hair and dirt into the gearbox--what tend to be the next things to fail? Dirt-related problems seem very common: motors quitting, circle dance, and things like that. How preventable are these and other failures, given regular cleaning and general maintenance?
I'm wondering what a typical user might expect--someone who might vacuum or blow the dirt out periodically, but who is unlikely ever to strip down a Disco or a 5xx.
Any thoughts from those of you who have fixed a lot of Roombas? |
