I recently saw some photos of the motor gears on the Discovery? series on this website. I thought I would check out my 560s cleaning head motor gears(something I had not touched yet). Anyway I unscrewed the two screws holding the motor to the module and then unscrewed the other screws holding the gears on the motor. The gears were clean as a whistle so I screwed it all back together.
At that time I also unscrewed the gear case on the cleaning head module and cleaned the gears once again. After screwing the gear cap back on the gear case, I decided I would add some tape around the gear case to keep hair and dirt from getting in through the sides and through a morphed gear hole.
Anyway, I put it back together and for the first time the brushes would not run over carpet, but they would run over hardwood. I went back in and took the tape off, just trying to problems solve. Taking the tape off didn't fix anything.
I'm wondering if I screwed the motor in wrong? I noticed a little wire going from the motor to the module case. I now believe that wire has something to do with the cleaning head moving up and down depending on if it's on carpet or hardwood? Could the way I screwed it back in be keeping the module from moving up properly which is putting too much preassure on the brushes resulting in them not turning?
Any thoughts are appreciated. |

Most of us use these instructions and do not unscrew the motor from the deck. Maybe one of the gurus can check in here.
The little wire is important as it used to be a little string on the 4xxx series and now is a wire. It moves the deck up and down as it travels across surfaces.

Thanks Vic. We can always count on you!
I'll make sure I have it right when I get home.
I hope this is the problem. I'd hate to have to bring out the upright...wherever it is.
You truely are the robot master! |

Must have had it in wrong.
Now it's working properly.
