| Have a new 550 roomba and have sent it on its cleaning mission a couple of times. And then we noticed a scattering of very small black bakelite bits. We swept them up with a broom and dustpan and didn't much think about it. Sent roomba out again. Bakelite bits again. The roomba sounds okay and gives no indication that it isn't operating properly: we don't hear any growling, or crunching, like something's mangled inside. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what is roomba doing? And what should we do? |

Since you have the 550 I would definitely take it back to Costco and replace with another. This doesn't sound familiar but it also doesn't sound right. Something is happening in there.
Did you remove the bottom cover and check inside? |

| Thanks for the tip. We'll remove the bottom cover and see if anything falls out. Love your doggie pics. Looks like just one of them could fill your Roomba. |

Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? Curious to know what bakelite bits could be from if it's from the Roomba itself. |

We opened the Roomba and not a thing looked out of order, so it's still a bit mystifying. We hear no rattles, nothing is loose, it's operating perfectly (in its own random way). We're not returning it because nothing appears to be wrong. We're looking very closely at our 2 cats and dog to see if there's some way they're dropping bakelite bits. Not too likely ----
Whatever it is, we're pretty sure Roomba is not involved. We'll give you a holler if we ever discover the source of the bakelite bits...... |

| LOL it's sounds as if something broke and Roomba's detective-like cleaning methods searched it out and found it. Glad to hear it's probably not the Roomba at fault here. |

| Bakelite has not been produced for many years. It must be finding it on the floor somewhere. |
