Hi,
Has anyone tried out the black knockoff Roomba batteries on ebay that go for around $30 and fit the Auto Vacuum M288 as well as Roombas?
They state they are Ni-Cad??!!!, but provide up to 80 minutes runtime.
Wondered about the durability, runtime, quality, and memory effect of the Ni-Cad (would you have to run a Max cycle EVERY time to prevent?!)
They seem like they might be a choice to use in more geriatric robots to keep them alive where a new battery from iRobot would cost more than the older Roomba is worth.

I accidentally ordered some NiCd battery cells cheap on ebay once. I must have been tired, because I thought I was ordering NiMH cells. Anyway, I installed a set of them in one case, and use it currently in a Roomba that just cleans one or two small rooms. It gives me 55 minutes of run time, and that's sufficient for the purpose.
One thing I've noticed is that the battery indicator goes orange-red fairly early in the clean cycle, but then it keeps running for quite some time.
So...bottom line, it's not fabulous, but was an inexpensive solution to a modest need. |
