I have a newer Roomba (1 year old) I think it is 5500. Anyways it used to go fast sometimes then transition to slow. Then It started intermittently going only slow. Now it only goes slow. I am mechanically inclined, and do mind taking it a part. Can someone tell me what may be the cause?

Tim, Welcome to RoombaReview!! :D
I'm unclear as to what model Roomba that you have. If you turn the Roomba over, can you easily take out your battery? If so, give us the first 4 numbers after the "JEN". That is your model number. If you don't see the battery, you have a 5xx Roomba.
I'm assuming you have the 5xx model(The older models didn't switch from slow to fast). Why it's having a hard time transitioning between going slow and fast, is that the lens is dirty on the inside of the bumper cover, thus the Roomba is thinking it is going to hit something, thus going slow all of the time. The only way to rectify this is to take off the bumper and clean the window and IR's. You can try to use compressed air to clean the inside, but I didn't have any luck..
Let us know.. |

| Thanks for the replies, I am not home now but believe it is 560, I will check the bumper for dirt, and scratching. |

| Scratches are not the issue here, dust and hair buildup is. You can quite often clear it by patting the bumper hard enough to work it, pat vigorously. Compressed air also helps. You might need to remove the bumper to solve the issue. |
