i was wondering is the roomba 510 a good machine? i bought a scheduler and it was junk, so i sent it back to the guy, now he's offering me a 510 for $25.00 more .I'm thinking this isn't really an upgrade from what I've been reading .any input would be greatly appreciated. and i was wondering do they have a home base for this model?

The lower end models below # 535 do not schedule, use different walls and in some cases do not come with a home base or use one. I'm not sure if the 510 is that one but I suspect so.

They are being sold at discount stores now so that should tell you something.

However, if you are being sold a 510 that is new with warranty over a 4xxx series that was as you say junk with no warranty that would make a huge difference. All the 5xx series are modular and in the future you will be able to easily swap out a part if something goes wrong. All the 5xx mechanical parts are the same but the electronics differ a bit.

The 510 has no charging plates underneath it so there is no home base function for it. It does come with the same battery as the 535, seems to have the same cleaning patterns as my 535 and does come with the same drive wheels and Cleaning Head module as the other models.

Once the Factory Diagnostics can be accessed then we can determine what hardware features have been disabled on the 510. That should occur in the near future.

Keep in mind anything purchased on Ebay carries no warranty from IRobot. They will refuse to do anything for you. Now there is always the "gift" way of registering.........

Get the 570 (perhaps the 560 is the 570?? at some stores) but nothing less. There are discounts out there. Do some research. I'd stay away from eBay. :D

The 560 and 570 are the same, aside from the 570 comes with the remote and different accessories. The Roombas themselves are the same. The 560 can use the remote if you want to order it later.

I have the 580 with remote and other accessories. Just another 560 with accessories. I haven't used the Remote to date (I have the Roomba 2 months now). Also I haven't set up a program to automatically run the iRobot. What I do is remove clutter like chairs, floor standing nic nacs, etc. and send "The Boomerang" (iRobot 580) on a mission manually. I get a better cleaning job this way. I do need to move the Charger to the Room / area I want cleaned. So far it's working perfectly. The maintenance part isn't for everyone though. :)

Question? Why do you have to move the charger to the room you want to clean? It will find the charger no matter where. Especially if you use the LH feature to contain it to that room and let it leave the charger itself. If you do not let it leave by itself, picking it up and moving it will not allow the electronics to decide how much time to clean the area and move to the next area then back to the HB.

Sounds like you should have bought a 530 or 535.

When I first got the 580 I had it clean a Large Entrance / Powder Room as one room then a LH to clean the long hallway. After reading the Forums I decided that the iRobot will clean a longer time in one room if I use the Virtual Wall. So I've separated the cleaning to Kitchen 1-RM - the Entrance / Powder Room 1-Room and the Hallway 1-Room. Doing this, I need to move the iRobot and the Charger. If I do one of these Rooms, I do not run the iRobot again that same day. I haven't run it in other rooms yet.
I probably can use at least one other Roomba but will hold off until the product is upgraded and sealed. 8)

Forgot to mention.....I didn't know the 580 was the same as the 560 or other when purchasing. I thought the motor / suction would be improved with the new model number. Learned about the model numbers after the fact :!:

I have 4 510s. I love them!!! I use the schedulers (4000 series) in the hardwood areas I know will be clear of clothes/debris. I use the 510s in the bedrooms/basement that I can't schedule because...kids,kids, kids, husband. The 510 has the same cleaning capacity as any 500 series. It does not have scheduling. You just have to unplug and press clean - replug when done. Not a problem for me as I have to do a walk through before hand. None of these will be worry free as you still have to clean after every use in the 500 series because dust wraps around the brush ends. I have no indoor dogs upstairs but somehow I get a matting of dust/carpet fibers on the ends every run!!! I hope this means they work better on carpet than the 4xxx.
Best wishes and good luck!
